1.0211 now proceed to 3 Katement of the experiments which were made at the Schooſe, and endeavour to explain the principles they were intended to elucidate: the firſt obje& is to free the ground trom every unproduttive plant; the ſccond, to bring the ground into garden culture, and, in order to obtain the whole nouriſhment it is capable of yielding, by repeated plough- ings, during the whole ſummer, to admit the air and moiſture to penetrate frecly to the roots of the plants; conceiving, that by this means nearly all the advantages that manure can produce, may be obtained. Undoubtedly a[mall proportion ol manure with conſtant workings, will yield better crops than can be had by any quantity of manure without it. If 1 am accurate, five teet ſitches with the ſuperior advantages of tillage, will yield, per acre, as much as thoſe on three teet ſtitches. The firſt experiment was to aſcer- tain the weight, upon ten yards ſquare, or the forty-eighth part of an acre, ef potatoes, on four feet ſitches; it produced 2160(ſtones3, or thirteen tons and a half, per acre: from being obliged to deſiſt from cleaning by the end ef July, they were found very dirty when the tops decayed--an additional foot in the ftitches will prevent this. The next experiment was to determine the weight of a third cutting of clover; the Arlt cutting was nine tons, the ſecond ſix tons, and the third, eight tons and 123 ſtones; total, 23 tons 123 ſtones per acre, which, at 13d. per ſtone, gives a value of 23]. 15S. 42d. Horles were, on repeated trials, found, for the two firſt weeks, to require four ſtones per day, afterwards three ſtones and a half were, upon an average, ſufhcient: milch cows conſumed four ſtones. The ſaving made by ſoiling and ſtall feeding, is not dificult to calculate. I would wiſh to aſk, whe- ther one acre, thus employed, is not equal to ſeven, grazed: the expenſe of cutting and leading, 1s more than repzid by the manure that is gained, Clo- ver, under this management, is produ&ive above all other crops.--The ſoil on which the clover grew, 1s a clay with a cinder under it, and of a very in= different nature: the cropping of it was firſt by oats, thep cabbages, after- wards turnips, without any additional manure». and theſe were drawn: a Night dreſſing of aſh:s was given for barley, which yielded upwards of ſeven teen Cumberland buſhels or fifty-one Winchefter, per acre; the clover was top dreſſed, after the Eſſex method, with ſand and ſea ſhells; it has been again top dreſſed, and was rolled twice each year at leaſt; it will be cut twice next Year, and the third crop ploughed in for wheat,

Carrots are very little, if at all, inferior to oats in the feeding of horfes; by experience, I can pronounce them to anſwer admirably as a part ſubſtitute tor oats; each horſe has five pounds of carrats per day, in lieu of four pounds öf oats: ſince they have been ſo fed, they have improved in condition. The laſt experiment was on cabbages; forty pine cabbages were on ten yards ſquare, or 2352 per aere--their weight, 116(t. 12 1b. or 35 tons and a half per acre: which, at 114. per ſone, is 351. 105. value per acre.
