YROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER 3; INVENTED BY MON- SIEUR POIRIER GILBERDRIC, OF FRANCE.
[wiTrn A PLATE ANNEXED.]
HE different Agricultural Machines which 1 have veb
Seen, do not offer all the advantages of which a cul- Uvator of land has need, and particularly/at the time when hands are scarce.- The want of labourers has constrained me to have recourse to invention, to Supply their place, and I bave constructed a machine proper for the removing earth from one place to another, and which only requires two oxen, or two horzes to work it, and one man to guide, or force it into the ground, in order to take up its load, and when it is then drawn to the place where tbe earth Should be deposited, the man has only to raise up the two handles, which occasions the reversing of the plank-work upon which the earth is conveyed.
In order that this implement way produce the desired ef- fect it is nece3sary that the earth which should be removed has had three previous ploughings. After Such precaution the machine will. find no resistance in its work. 1 have vsed it lately, for the first time, and by its means I have transporte ed, in two hours, more earth than four men with wheel- barrows could have removed in a whole day.
After this Success I Jook upon this machine as very use- ful, particularly"in those places where the Proprietors are obliged to' cut ditches in their fields on account of the moisture of the land. The earth thrown out from Sucl. Crains naturally raises the banks, occasions- the centre of tbe land to be lower than the borders, the rain water to Stagnate thereon, and to destroy the herbage or grain there planted.
'Üo prevent Such inconvenjences, and to render Such land of a proper deelivity, it is necesSary to remove from the borders of the ditches tothe ventre of the land, the earth taken out of
