SPECIFICATION OF THE PATENT GRANTED TO JOHN BROWN OF POOLE, IN THE COUNTY OF DORSET, MERCHANT, FOR IMPROVEMENTS APPLICABLE TO THE WHEELS OPF CAR- RIAGES3 AND TO VARIOUS OTHER USEFUL PURPOSES ep

O all to whom these prezents Shall come,&c. Now

know ye, that in compliance with the Said proviso, 1 die Said John Brown do hereby declare, that my Said inven- tion is applicable to the wheels of carriages, to windlasses, and capstans, either on board of Ship, or vn Shore, and to the hawse hole of Ships, and to all other purposes, where the Same rotatory motion is required, as follows: Figure 1. for wheels of carriages, reference being had to the annexed drawings. These plates, with the SIX wheels between them, are kept together by three Spall bolts, as D, wbich pass through the holes in the plates d d d, and oh ihese bolts are placed stops, as E, which keep the plates Separate for the wheels to move round freely: F is a very thin piece of metal, placed in the axle-tree between the wheels and the plates, to prevent the water, Kc. from getting in. GH are two small Plates. Lis a wbeel, of which there are Six, whose pins move round in the holes in the plates, S9 Sg ZS- K is a very thin

But we Shall not content oursc]ves here; we Shall in our neXt, make Some remarks on the important objects in husbandry to which it may be applied; and every future Specifi- cation we ingert, we propose to Jllustrate in the Same Way» with the asSist- ance of the ingenious inventor. It is of litrie use to have a mere dry detail of the form and circumstances of the discovery, and of the geometrical figures to which it bears reference, without an elucidation of the various Situations and particulars in the arts, by which the advantages of the invention may either be correctly understood, or intelligibly implied,
