Be maintains, that the baneful effes of canker may_ part be prevented 1n the more delicate fruit-trees; as‘ the firſt cauſe of canker ariſes from an animalcule ſome- thing like the cochineal fly, and which 1s efeQ@ually deſtroyed by the medication: and the medication will, in great meaſure, ſtop the oozing of gum in the ſeveral ſpecies of cherries, and other ſtone-fruits. Further he obſerves, 1nſe&ts are great depredators on the delicate fruit-trees, by eating of the bloſſoms and, leaves in the ſpring.

The Orchardift, by a little attention, for there 1s no myſtery, may nearly guard againſt the reſpeQive evils affe@ting the trees; and the whole ſyſtem 1s grounded upon the regular operations of nature 1n the produêtions of vegetation; the working, or laborious part, is expreſ- ſed in ſo clear and conciſe a manner, that it can hardly be miſunderſtood; many of the thoughts are new, and the whole E well worthy the attention of the re- ſpeAive fruit-growers.
