Der Unterſchied zwiſchen between und among iſt ein ähnlicher wie der zwiſchen entre und parmi; indem among ein Dazwiſchenſein zwiſchen einer Menge Gegenſtände und Perſonen, between nur ein ſolches zwiſchen zwei Perſonen ausdrückt.
Around oder round geſchrieben ſind Präpoſitionen romaniſchen Urſprunges und kommen vom altfr. roonde, rond, round, reond her und wurden im Engliſchen dann nach en ronde und à la ronde gebildet.
Die Bedeutung entſpricht dem deutſchen rund⸗ oder ringsum, dem holl. rondom, rondsom. Neben dem altn. umhyverfis*) gab es auch noch ein kringum und ikringum, wovon das dän. omkring und das ſchwed. kring und ikring(circa) kömmt. Aehnlich iſt das ſerb. okolo(circum) von kolo(orbis).—
