marl or chalk, as soft as loam, is found under the surface in-this parish, but no use made of it, although there appear to be many situations that would be greatly improved by it. Wheat straw is frequently carried from hence to Lon- don, a distance of thirty miles, and sold there, from, one pound eight shillings to two pounds per load: A team carries between three and four loads at a time, and brings back thirty quarters of rabbit dung, bought at two shillings and ten-pence per quarter; which manures four acres of land, commonly sown with barley.
