390 Siberin Wheat.[Dee

I] cannot conclude, without expresing my disapprobation of 4he measure proposed to you by Mr. Carpenter, of rejecting all correspondents who use fietitious nämes Inmyopinion, whehter* 1! 2 communication be Sent you by a practical farmer, or a grub-) atreet garretteer, whether it be anonymous, has the name of

- the author, or a Sctitious one, whether it be communicated in the language of a gentleman or a peasant, provided it be intelligible, and the matter new and important 3; you and your readers are equally obliged to the author.|

The most Splendid talents are fyequently united with an ex- cess of modesty, and'even timnidity; and were no one allowed to appear in print, without afixing his name to his first at» tempts, many of our best publications might never have been produced.

1 am also Sorry to See Mr. C. 80 much out of humour in his answer to Farmer Slouch. No one can expect td publish& theory that will meet with universal approbation. If it be a true one, unsuccessful attacks will increase its celebrity. If false,

». he ought to be obliged to any ene for exposing its imperfec» tions; more particularly in agriculture, as in. convincing the author of his errors he will teach him a more profitable SyStemz I tbink it probable, that had Mr. C. explained what was the “« common way". of treating land in Worcestershire, there would have been no differance of opinion between bim and Farmer Slouch. I am Sir, your obedient Servant;
