A Newcalſtle paper ſtates, that the late rains have greatly improved the crops, particularly the graſs and hay, which were beginning to ſuffer from the cold and dry weather; and the(ſeaſon now promiſes extraordinary abun- dance. The aſpettof the wheats,&c. in all parts is alſo bighly rich and luxuriant- A good deal of hay has been eut in this neighbourhood.
A young man lately undertook, for a trifling wager to carry a ſack of malt, weighing eight ſcore pounds, from Didmarton to Tetbury, Glouces- terhire, a distance of nearly ſix miles, in an hour and a half, which he pec- forned with eaſe in ſeven minutes within the time. 4
The Annual Wool Fair at Harlow-Bush, was held on Wednesday, Ju- 1y 175 and was attended by moſt of the principal Wool growers in the neighbourhood. Some very reſpectable Woolbuyers were preſent, and a conſiderable quantity of Wool was ſold. Mr. Montague Burgoyne, who was in the Chair, acquainted the meeting, that being deſirous to"do equal juſtice to the buyer and the ſeller, he had taken every means in his power to aſcertain the market price; and that he underſtood, that South-Down Wool fold briſkly at 70 and 7158. per tod of 281b. but that, in order to encourage the Fair, he hould accept 2s- 4d. per Ib. though he knew that the quality ot his Wool was equal to that ſold at Thetford for 25. 64. which price he ſhould expect after the Fair. He was, however, only offered 25. 3d. whiclt he refuſed. The beſt South-Down was not ſold, but ſome of an inferior quality fetched 2s. 2d- per Ib. Welch, 15. 10d. and 13. 11d. per Ib. and Wilts and Herts 15. 84. per 1b, It was univerſally allowed, that the inſtitution of Fairs was abſolutely necefſary for the ſellers to obtain a market price for their Wool; and thoſe gentlemen who firſt eſtabliſhed the Fair on Harlow Buſh, declared that their object-was by no means to raiſe the price of Wool, but to obtain the market price, according to the quality, without confider- ing whether the Wool was grown in Eſſex, Suffol&, or Norfolk,
