PRIZES FOR: STOCK, OFFERED: BY EORD SOMERVILLE.

} exa conformity therefore with the dorine here laid down, and truftingit will fot be thought preſuming or officious, the Authgr 1s inducedto offer two annual prizes of 5ol. each in due propôrtions; one for the firſt and ſecond beſt yoke of fat oxen, which ſhallhave laboured a given period, to provide corn and other food for man, but ſhall never once have conſumed it; the ſecond, for all breeds of ſhort-woolled ſheep (hitherto ſo much. negle@ed), giving the preference to thoſe moſt productive in food and raiment. Both ſubject to the fol- lowing conditions.

To be gwen annually, ſo long as ſhall be thought adviſable, a prize of gol. to the beſt, and 290. to the ſecond beſt yoke or pair óf oxen, which ſhall have worked together in yoke or har- nels, for the ſpace of chree years previous to their being turned up to graze; aged from five to eight years, weighing from one hundred to one hundred and ſixty tone, eight pounds to the ſtone, that is, from ten to ſixteen ſcoré per quarter, being. the fize beſt adapted to labour,? and to the averige of markets, They will be let up-from work between the 25th Æ April and the ift of May, 1801, and ſhewn in London on the Friday and Saturday neareſt the 11t of March tollowing, being a period of ten months, more or leſs.

The order, as to fleſh, în which theſe oxen are, on New Y ears Day, and thè number of. days work done between that time and the 25th. ef Apri, muſt be ſpecified. Due allowance will be made for diſtañce&f drift from any part of the kingdom, both in a lean and fat. ſtate.

It-muſt be warranted, that they have had no corn of any deſcription; that the firaw, if any given when fatting, was carefully cleaned of cora; that they have had no beans, peas, buck-wheat, or potatoes(turnips. are not included in this ex- ception). What quantity of oil-cake has been given muſt be accurately ſtated, that due allowance may be made. If the leaſt fault ſhouid be diſcovered in any certificate, the perſon ſo offend<= ing will be ſet aſide, and deemed diſqualified ever afterwards.

This prize is deſigned to countenance farmers in their uſual courſe of prohtable huſbandry, rather than thoſe who, forge-:ful of general benefit, are ambitious of keeping on cattle too long after they are rip.
