PREFACE.
The Manufadures illuſtrated and explained in this Volume, are Soap, Oil, Hat-making, Cochineal, and the Diſtillery; 2 ‘Treatiſe on the Brewery contains alſo general topics of national and financial application. The Liſt of Patents will be con- cluded in our next. The Bankrupt Liſt, and Price Tables, will form matter of uſeful reference.:
Our attention to Wévigation is manifeſted by the Treatiſe on. the Tides, which mäy have important conſequences; and the eaſy tranſit of merchandiſe, on good roads and canals, has cauſed many notices on thoſe ſubje@s.
Of Miſcellaneous matter we have admitted more in appear- ‘ance than in reality; magg articles, which cannot perhaps be ‘referred to any Färt of the title of the Magazine, ¿ have, nevertheleſs, conſiderable bearing on the general obje& of „Our attempts to inform the public mind on commercial topics.
“ The favours of various Correſpondents do not permit us to «pretend to any rigid uniformity of ſtyle; perſpicuity, we think, we have attained to, and reft fatisfied, If the favour.of the Public may be calçulated from the encreaſing demand for our publication,(of whieh a Second Edition of the firſt number is
_ neagly fold), we may expreſs our fatisfa@ion in having obtained full'Îs much patronage as we think we have deſerved. Our undertaking is not arrfved at manhood; but we hope, that the improving vigour of adoleſcence will not be inyifible in our future progrefſs.
