"THE inhabitants engaged in huſbandry poſſeſs in general a competent ſtock, enjoy their poſſeſlons in perfe& ſecurity, and have every inducement for purſuing agriculture. The only or principal bar to improvement, is their ignorance of the art; continued partly by their conſtantly ſucceeding to their fa- ther's property, without having been abroad, or in a ſituation to colle& information; and partly by their occupying their own lands to the excluſion of ſtrangers, who might introduce improvements from other parts. Now, however, that ex- amples pf more improved management are ſet before them, their ignorance is faſt removing, and their huſbandry aſſumes 3 better form 3; and they ſhow every diſpoſition to attend to heir own emolument in this as well as every other matter, when they once diſcover how it can be promoted. Their Jand is now waſted leſs than formerly by overcropping, and the rotation among the crops is conſiderably improved by the introdu&tion of hoed, or amending ones, at proper periods»

A want of lime, and other kinds of calcareous earth, or rather 2 too ſcanty ſupply of it, from its high price and its being furniſhed from the kiln owners, or thoſe who prepare it irregularly, makes improvements in agriculture proceed more ſlowly than they would otherwiſe do. The demand for lime is greater than the ſupply which the kilns yield 3; a cir- cumſtance the more to be regretted as calcareous manures
