In confirmation of this doctrine, it may be obferved from experience, that this is re- markably the cafe with the iron plough, which is univerfally allowed to be pulled by lefs force than any other. It has however difadvantages that have hitherto prevented its general ufe, and probably will continue to do fo; the only reafon for mentioning it here, is the authority it affords in favour of the preceeding conclufion, which is fo con- fiderable, as not to have efcaped the grofs obfervation with which things of this na- ture are generally attended to.

It was formerly hinted, that the plough pulled by leaft force would probably be found to have difadvantages, which, in fome meafure, counterbalance the advantages a- rifing from this circumftance. The chief of thefe is, that it moves unfteadily, and, on this account, performs its work more imper- fectly.
