Varieties by any accidental circumſtance of colour, taſte, or odour; the ſeeds of theſe do not always produce plants imilar to the parent; as in our nu- merous fruit-trees and garden flowers; which are

propagatcd by grafts or layers.

The firſt eleven Claſſes include the plants, in whole flowers both the ſexes reſide; and in which the Males or Stamens are neither united, nor un- equal in height when at maturity; and are therc- fore diſtinguiſhed from each other imply by the A UNDEr OF males 1 CACH-HOWEr, a515 10 in fhe annexced PLATE, copied from the Didtionnaire Bo- tanique of M. BULLTARD, in which the numbers

of each divilion refer to the Botanic Claſles.

CLASS I. Osz MALE, Monandria; includes the plants which pollcis but one Stamen in cach flower.
