THE PLEASANTNESS OF RELIGION.
HYMN 11.
L. M.
1
GOD, the offended God Most High,
to
His messengers his place supply, And Jesus begs us to be friends.
2 Us. in the stead of Christ, they pray, Us, in the stead of God, entreat, To cast our arms, our sins, away, And find forgiveness at his feet.
3 Our God in Christ! thine embassy, And proffer'd mercy, we embrace; And gladly reconciled to thee,
Thy condescending mercy praise.
4 Poor debtors, by our Lord's request, A full acquittance we receive! And criminals, with pardon blest, We, at our Judge's instance, live!
HYMN 12.
SECTION II.
1. DESCRIBING THE PLEASANTN ESS OF RELIGION.
D. S. M.
1
And let your joys be known; Join in a song with sweet accord, While ye surround his throne: Let those refuse to sing, Who never knew our God; But servants of the Heavenly King May speak their joys abroad.
2 The God that rules on high, That all the earth surveys,
That rides upon the stormy sky, And calms the roaring seas; This awful God is ours, Our Father and our Love;
He will send down his heavenly powers, To carry us above.
3 There we shall see his face, And never, never sin; There, from the rivers of his grace, Drink endless pleasures in: Yea, and before we rise To that inimortal state, The thoughts of such amazing bliss Should constant joys create.
4 The men of grace have found Glory begun below: Celestial fruit on earthly ground
From faith and hope may grow Then let our songs abound, And every tear be dry: We're marching through Immanuel's ground,
To fairer worlds on high.

ITAPPY soul, that, free from harms, Rests withi his Shepherd's arms! Who his quiet shall molest? Who shall violate his rest? Jesus doth his spirit bear: Jesus takes his every care:
He who found the wandering sheep, Jesus, still delights to keep.

20 that I might so believe, Steadfastly to Jesus cleave; On his only love rely, Smile at the destroyer nigh: Free from sin and servile fear, Have my Jesus ever near; All his care rejoice to prove; All his paradise of love!
3 Jesus, seek thy wandering sheep; Bring me back, and lead, and keep, Take on thee my every care; Bear me, on thy bosom bear: Let me know my Shepherd's voice, More and more in thee rejoice; More and more of thee receive; Ever in thy Spirit live:
4 Live, till all thy life I know, Perfect, through my Lord, below Gladly then from earth remove, Gather'd to the fold above:
O that I at last may stand With the sheep at thy right hand, Take the crown so freely given, Enter in by thee to heaven!
HYMN 14.
L. M.
The blessing of God's chosen race, The wisdom coming from above, The faith that sweetly works by love. 2 Happy, beyond description, he
Who knows" the Saviour died for me!" The gift unspeakable obtains, And heavenly understanding gains.

3 Wisdom divine! Who tells the price Of Wisdom's costly merchandise? Wisdom to silver we prefer,
And gold is dross compared to her.
4 Her hands are fill'd with length of days, True riches, and immortal praise; Riches of Christ, on all bestow'd, And honour that descends from God.
5 To purest joys she all invites, Chaste, holy, spiritual delights; Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her flowery paths are peace.
6 Happy the man who Wisdom gains; Thrice happy, who his guest retains! He owns, and shall for ever own, Wisdom, and Christ, and Heaven are one.
HYMN 15.
C. M. APPY the souls to Jesus join'd,
Walking in all his ways, they find Their heaven on earth begun.
2 The church triumphant in thy love, Their mighty joys we know;
They sing the Lamb in hymns above, And we in hymns below.
3 Thee in thy glorious realm they praise, And bow before thy throne; We in the kingdom of thy grace: The kingdoms are but one.
4 The holy to the holiest leads; From thence our spirits rise: And he that in thy statutes, treads, Shall meet thee in the skies.
