THE GOODNESS OF GOD.
3 The earth could to her centre quake, Convulsed, while her Creator died: O let mine inmost nature shake, And die with Jesus crucified!
4 At thy last gasp the graves display'd Their horrors to the upper skies: O that my soul might burst the shade, And, quicken'd by thy death, arise!"
5 The rocks could feel thy powerful death, And tremble, and asunder part: O rend, with thine expiring breath, The harder marble of my heart!
6 My stony heart thy voice shall rent, Thou wilt, I trust, the veil remove: My inmost bowels shall resent
The yearnings of thy dying love.
HYMN 26.
L. M.
THIRST, thou wounded Lamb of God, To wash me in thy cleansing blood; To dwell within thy wounds: then pain Is sweet, and life or death is gain. 2 Take my poor heart, and let it be For ever closed to all but thee! Seal thou my breast, and let me wear That pledge of love for ever there! 3 How blest are they who still abide Close shelter'd in thy bleeding side! Who life and strength from thence derive, And by thee move, and in thee live.

4 What are our works but sin and death, Till thou thy quick'ning Spirit breathe? Thou giv'st the power thy grace to move: O wondrous grace! O boundless love! 5 How can it be, thou heavenly King, That thou should'st us to glory bring?
