And wet their couch with tears'; They wrestled hard, as we do now, With sins, and doubts, and fears.
We ask them, whence their victory
came:
cr They, with united breath, mf Ascribe the conquest to the Lamb, Their triumph to His Death.
p They mark'd the footsteps that He trod,
cr His zeal inspired their breast: And, following their incarnate GOD, p They reach'd the promised rest.
fOur glorious Leader claims our praise
For His own pattern given; While the great cloud of witnesses Show the same path to Heaven.

Hear us, we beseech Thee. CHRIST, Who didst of old appear On the waters, drawing near; Thou art able still to save, Calmly ruling wind and wave.
